Lets make art together
»we like your work - get in touch with us - we should make some work - let’s make pictures together…«. Was it the artist himself? Have some fans left their message as suggest the email-addresses next to the inscription on the window? But why write it inverted? That’s the beauty about the art project Sox: There is no better way to escape the busy everyday life in Kreuzberg than passing in front of the art vitrine on Oranienstraße. Each show addresses sensitized pedestrians and attentive flaneurs and invites them to reflect upon the current exhibit.
At the moment painter Alexander Lieck presents »Last summer« – or rather does not present anything but ephemeral traces. Because all one sees is three large pastel paper sheets with hints of somehow enigmatic geometrical patterns. The forms derive from the utensils Lieck had placed on a studio table that the presented paper sheets were placed on. Last summer’s sunlight faded their colours except for the spots covered by the artist’s pots, sketchbooks and brushes. Exhibited at Sox and thus again exposed to the sunlight, the forms will disappear, too, visualizing the viscious temporality of (what was meant to be) a hot summer. Either way, the slow transformation contrasts the hectic surroundings of Sox and once again transforms the art vitrine into a genious point of calm.
Since 2000 Sox nestles in-between regular display windows and shops. Founded by nine artists who wanted to create a non-space for the arts / somewhat interactive exhibition site, SOX is momentarily tended by Alexander Wagner and Benedikt Terwiel. The two artists regularly commission site-specific works, among which spectacular pieces like a live-sound-installation or a street-disco-machine. A welcome distraction whether from a hectic day or to kill time. At Sox, the art addresses the viewer 24/7!
On display until September 25, 2011.
